Transformative Transport Services: Innovations in Sustainability, Inclusivity, and Technology
(To be published by Emerald Publishing, Scopus-indexed)
Book Overview
Transport services are at the heart of urban and rural life, shaping access, inclusion, and economic mobility. Yet, in the face of urbanisation, climate change, inequality, and digital disruption, transport systems must adapt to meet evolving environmental, social, and technological demands.
This edited volume explores Transformative Transport Services Research (TTSR) as a new lens for understanding transport as a service ecosystem that empowers users, communities, and policymakers. We invite chapters that combine theoretical grounding, empirical insight, and practical implications to reimagine transport as an inclusive, sustainable, and technologically enabled service.
The book will be published with Emerald Publishing and indexed in Scopus, ensuring global academic visibility.
Themes and Strands
Contributors must align their chapters with at least one of the three interlinked strands:
Sustainability
Strategies for reducing emissions
Enhancing resilience
Circular economy principles in transport services
Inclusivity
Access for marginalised groups (women, people with disabilities, low-income users)
Cultural, social, and behavioural dynamics in transport service provision
Inclusive service design
Technology
Digital and electric mobility
Smart systems and platforms
Data-driven and AI-enabled service design
Target Audience
Academic researchers in transport studies, service marketing, urban planning, sustainability, and development studies
Postgraduate and MBA/Executive Education students in urban policy, transport management, or sustainability
Practitioners, policymakers, and innovators in mobility services, public transport, and smart city development
Suggested Chapter Structure (Guidelines for Authors)
To ensure coherence, contributors are expected to follow this structure:
Title and Abstract (150–200 words)
Clearly identify alignment with Sustainability, Inclusivity, or Technology.
Introduction
Define the transport service issue and its relevance.
State how the chapter aligns with Transformative Transport Services Research (TTSR).
Theoretical and Conceptual Framing
Ground the work in transport and service theory (e.g., Service-Dominant Logic, Transformative Service Research, ecosystems, accessibility, digital service innovation).
Connect explicitly to service transformation.
Context and Method/Case
Provide empirical evidence (case study, survey, ethnography, policy analysis) or a conceptual framework.
Justify the setting and approach.
Findings/Discussion
Present insights that show how transport services are being transformed.
Link analysis to the chosen strand (sustainability, inclusivity, or technology).
Theoretical Contribution
Explain how the chapter advances TTSR and related theories.
Highlight any new concepts or frameworks.
Managerial and Policy Implications
Provide actionable insights for practitioners, policymakers, and service providers.
Conclusion and Future Directions
Summarise contributions.
Suggest opportunities for further research and innovation.
References
Use APA 7th edition.
Word count: 6,000–8,000 words per chapter (including references).
